Elementary School Counselor (P-5)

Position Description
Implement and manage a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the ISCA International Model that addresses students’ academic, personal, social, and emotional needs.
Provide individual and group counseling sessions to support students’ mental health, academic performance, and personal development.
Deliver classroom lessons promoting intercultural competence, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills.
Assist students in setting personal, social, and academic goals, fostering their global awareness and development as responsible citizens.
Use data to assess student needs and identify areas where additional support or intervention is necessary.
Collaborate with teachers to integrate counseling strategies into students’ learning experiences, supporting their holistic development.
Provide crisis intervention and support for students facing trauma, loss, or other personal challenges.
Address student referrals from teachers, parents, and staff, offering solutions to academic, social, or emotional challenges.
Lead and facilitate the class list creation process, collaborating with teachers and administrators to ensure balanced and equitable class placements based on students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.
Actively participate in school-wide initiatives, including the Safeguarding Committee, and collaborate with faculty to create a culture of inclusion, respect, and safety.

All KIS staff make ongoing contributions to enhancing the school community through after-school activities, athletics, student organizations, and clubs
All staff serve on a minimum of one event committee annually. Committee members plan, organize, and lead the facilitation of the event.
Qualifications
Required:
Master’s degree in Elementary School Counseling with a valid certificate.
Minimum of two years of successful experience working as a full-time teacher in an accredited school setting
Ability to obtain a work visa in Korea (successful completion of a drug screening process per Korean law)
Preferred:
Two years of overseas teaching experience
Training and experience in working with second-language learners

Classroom Instruction and Assessment:
Proficiency in standards-based instruction, assessment, and curriculum design to promote deep subject understanding
Deliver engaging, effective, student-centered lessons that promote collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving
Will provide timely, relevant feedback for student growth utilizing data to design instruction and respond to student needs
Student Support and Relationships:
Ability to connect with students and address their pastoral care needs, including supporting their social-emotional development and fostering positive learning behaviors
Develop positive relationships with students and families that communicated learning goals and expectations as well as instruct on areas of strength and need
Will foster and maintain a caring, inclusive learning environment for all students and work on progressive discipline models aligned with KIS core values

Collaborative approach to course planning and assessment delivery across grade levels, departments, divisions

Contract Terms
Begins August 1, 2025
The initial contract will be for two (2) years.
