Qualifications

Job Responsibilities
· Learning Support Specific Teaching Skills
– Individualize the content when necessary to meet each student’s learning needs
– Continuously monitor student learning and make appropriate adjustments to goals and strategies to meet students’ needs
· Co-Teaching Skills
– Collaborate and assist teachers, across all subject areas, with differentiating instruction and assessment based on student abilities, interests, and learning styles
– Support class teachers and provide training for the most effective teaching approaches for students with additional learning support needs
· Assessments
– Identify and screen students with additional learning needs in order to make decisions and provide resources to guide appropriate planning for student success;
* Make recommendations for outside evaluations to be completed for students with undiagnosed learning disabilities.
* Obtain up to date battery of tests and resources (e.g., WRAT-5 Tests)
– Maintain record of Testing Accommodations (MAP, AP, SAT, PSAT, etc)
· Case Management Skills
– Develop individual plans which identify clear targets and success criteria
– Ensure detailed records are kept of all documentation (Student Support Files including Learning Support Plans and Individualized Education Programs) relating to each child with additional needs
– Monitor and keep record of the progress of students in support classes or with accommodations and intervene when progress is not being made in classes.
· Record Keeping
– Maintain and regularly review necessary documentation (Student Support Files) in regards to students with additional needs.
– Ensure relevant information is available for staff and parents in regards to students with additional needs
– Maintain and update the school Learning Support Caseload List
· Parent and Faculty Communication
– Schedule, arrange and lead meetings with parents to ensure appropriate communication is made in relation to students receiving support
– Discuss LS student concerns with families and plan for supporting that student
– Organize informational sessions for parents about the Learning Support program in conjunction with the Director of Academics
– Ensure teaching staff are aware of levels and have clear recommendations for adjustments to be made in the classroom for each student
· Outside Agencies
– Make recommendations for external specialists (psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapist, etc.) in collaboration with parents
– Liaise with outside agencies as necessary and keep up-to-date with developments in additional learning support
· Academic Division
– Engage in department/team planning, curriculum review, resources inventory, and other activities
· Professional Development
– Keep current in education through coursework, in-service programs, and by attending professional meetings and conferences
– Engage with the administration and other staff in a committed effort to improve one’s own instructional skills
– Review, monitor and evaluate own practice, ensuring that teaching is academically differentiated and appropriate for the student
