Summary:
St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju seeks a compassionate and experienced High School Social Emotional Counselor for a 1-year maternity cover position during the 2025–2026 school year. This counselor will support the social and emotional well-being of high school students through comprehensive counseling services, fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to student wellness and equipped to support students through both everyday challenges and moments of crisis.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support & Crisis Management:
Build and maintain trusting, supportive relationships with students.
Provide individual counseling and on-call crisis support for students in need.
Advise school leadership on appropriate interventions in critical situations.
Program Development & SEL Instruction:
Design and implement programs to support student well-being, including workshops, awareness campaigns, and preventative initiatives.
Teach Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classes to students across high school grade levels.
Provide individual and small-group counseling based on student developmental needs.
Collaboration & Communication:
Serve as a visible and approachable role model, embodying SJA Jeju’s core values.
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and faculty to ensure aligned support for student development.
Participate in the advisory program and contribute to mentorship efforts.
Professional Development & Faculty Support:
Lead monthly PD sessions for teachers focused on Tier 1 classroom strategies for supporting student well-being.
Support staff in identifying and addressing social-emotional concerns in the classroom.
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS):
Work within the school’s MTSS framework to provide differentiated interventions based on student needs.
Serve as the College Board SSD (Services for Students with Disabilities) Coordinator, managing accommodations and documentation.
Team Involvement:
Collaborate with the Student Support Team (SST) and Safeguarding Team to monitor and support student well-being.
Attend multidisciplinary meetings to coordinate care and track progress for students requiring support.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, school counseling, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience providing social/emotional counseling to middle or high school students in an international school setting.
Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must meet Korean visa requirements, including a clean background check with no criminal record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in school counseling or a related field.
Certification as a school counselor.
Experience working in a boarding school setting.
Fluency in Korean and/or Mandarin Chinese is a plus.
