Tech University of Korea (Formerly Korea Polytechnic University) in Siheung-si (Jeongwang Station, Seoul Subway Line 4 and Suin–Bundang Line, https://www.tukorea.ac.kr) is looking for English language professors to join a small team teaching our freshman English program. The program has some of the smallest class sizes and highest contact hours per class in Korea, as well as considerable freedom to adapt the curriculum to your beliefs and teaching style. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic and responsible as well as talented at interacting with students and organizing communicative and interactive classes.

Semester Duties

Teaching freshman English classes of no more than 20 students for a total of 16 hours per week.

 – Meeting with students for 1-on-1 English Café conversation slots for five hours each week.

– Grading and other class administration.

 

University Vacation Period Duties

 

Professors will also be required to teach four-week courses to university students in the Intensive English Program held during vacations. This is a chance to specialize in subjects such as academic writing, debate, film English, business writing and more. There are 100 contracted hours to be completed during one of the two vacation periods. Hours worked above the 100 contracted hours will be paid at the overtime rate.

 

Benefits

Basic salary of 2.8-2.85m won per month depending on experience and qualifications.

– There are often opportunities to teach additional classes during the semester for extra pay.

– A minimum of eight weeks paid vacation, though this may be substantially more (professors received 14 weeks paid vacation in 2023).

– Extra meal payment of 100,000 won per month.

– A bonus of up to 2.4 million won will be paid contingent on the completion of 100 hours in the Intensive English Program taught during either the summer or winter vacation periods.

– On campus studio-room housing with bathroom and access to a shared kitchen is provided. All bills and internet access included. Professors choosing not to live in the accommodation provided receive a 350,000 won per month housing allowance.

– Enrollment in the Korean Teachers’ Pension Fund.

– National medical insurance (50% paid by employer).

– Free membership to the university fitness center and library.

 

Qualifications

Minimum requirements

Native speaker of English

– Four years of research and teaching experience combined

  • Master’s degree and two or more years of documented university or public school teaching experience.

In addition, preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge of the present context of Korean English education and show an ability to apply this knowledge in delivering relevant, realistic and interesting English classes while also proving to be reflective and empathetic professionals.
